Our firm represents a long line of Christian and jewish religious institutions in providing legal accompaniment to a wide variety of activities of the religious institutions.
Religious institutions is handled by attorneys in our firm who specialize in such matters, although they come from the various different departments of the firm (such as Tax, Zoning, etc.), so that the religious institution receives comprehensive professional services in a variety of fields.
In representing religious institutions, our firm acquired expertise and knowledge in fields and matters unique to religious institutions in Israel. Among the subjects upon whom our firm concentrates are the following:
1. Legal Status
Giving recognition to religious institutions as legal entities under Israeli law, in a manner which will enable religious institutions (such as those that are organized under religious law) to engage in enforceable legal activities recognized under all branches of Israeli law.
On this subject, as well as in the following ones, our firm developed a working relationship with the relevant governmental authorities that deal with religious entities in Israel (Christian Sects Department in the Ministry of Religious Affairs / Prime Minister’s Office including the unique taxation departments in the taxation authorities, and the International Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
2. Taxation of Religious Institutions
On this issue, our firm acts to obtain relief and special privileges in the taxation of religious institutions in all fields of their endeavors (tax payments to local authorities, income taxes and payments for land transactions).
In all fields of our firm’s endeavors, and particularly in this area, we place a special emphasis on all the regulations that applied to Christian religious institutions in prior periods, including Turkish “firmans” and international treaties.
3. Preservation and Handling of Institutional Assets
Our firm’s activities in this context deals, inter alia, with the following subjects:
Conducting asset surveys: locating assets, analyzing rights therein, the nature of their registration, and the planning condition relating to them.
Preventing damage to the realty: activities to locate negative impacts to the rights in the assets (by means of condemnation or damaging urban planning), and to cancel or mitigate them, and to obtain compensation for the damage;
Assistance in administering the assets: filing eviction proceedings, filing complaints to increase rental payments, etc.
Organizing transactions: providing comprehensive legal accompaniment in transactions involving the assets of religious institutions.
